Empties #3

Hi Guys,

So last night on my Instagram (@xxbrittersblog if you aren’t already following) I asked if my viewers would rather see an empties post or my favourite winter polishes and the people have spoken so today I am doing an empties post!  Let’s get straight into it…

1Palmolive Body Butter in Strawberry Smoother: This stuff is gooooood. You can tell, I literally use every last bit of it, that bottle is EMPTTY! I have already repurchased this body scrub as I find it’s the perfect everyday scrub and it smells just like a strawberry smoothie, this stuff is the!

Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub: This is a great cleaner. It smells fresh, it removes my makeup however I haven’t gone and repurchased this product as I want to play the field and test a few others out.

Target Girlz Only Dry Shampoo: I’m on my second or third bottle of this stuff and I am still impressed and have already repurchased this dry shampoo again as it’s a steal for only $2. However, I do find I go through it faster than the Bastile one and the Bastile one is better in quality.

Swisspers Cotton Buds: I am not brand orientated with cotton buds, they are much of a muchness to me, whatever is on sale.

3Australis Fresh and Flawless Powder: I haven’t come across someone who doesn’t like this powder, like, is that even possible? This stuff is greaaaat. I am on my fourth powder and have five backup in my drawer so I’m most definitely covered! If you haven’t gotten on the F&F band wagon already, please do, I have already converted so many family and friends to this product and they love it just as much as I do!

Nature’s Care Paw Paw Lip Balm: Holy Grail lip balm fo sho! This stuff is great, I’m already on my second tube of this stuff and will continue to repurchase this product as it makes my lips silky smooth.

Benefit They’re Real Mascara: I’m not going to lie, it was hard to put this product in my empties. Why you ask? Because I was in denial and didn’t want to believe it was empty :(. I scrapped the mascara tube clean with this one to get every last ounce of goodness out of it but sadly its time has come to an end. Never to fear I do have a backup ready to rock and roll however I will be testing out different mascaras I already have open before I return back to my beloved They’re Real.

So there you have it, my recent empties. What’s currently in your empty stash?

Until next time..

Bombshell Shineshadows by Covergirl Review*

Hi Guys,

So today I wanted to review a new product to hit Australian stores and that’s the Bombshell Shineshadows by Covergirl*. I got my hands on six colours and the colours I have are:

  • 300 Ice Queen
  • 305 Colour Me Money
  • 310 Platinum Club
  • 315 Gold Goddess
  • 320 Ooh La Lilac
  • 325 Copper Fling

(How beautiful do they look swatched!!)

These metallic pigments provide the perfect base under your eye shadow and contain reflective pigments making them perfect for a dramatic night time look. The shineshaows are creamy with a moose-like texture and are buildable so pigmentation can be built up as desired. The shadow doesn’t has a wet finish so layers/other eyeshadows can be added with ease as there is no need to allow time for the product to dry. I texted using a number of eye shadows on top of the shineshadow and they applied beautifully. Another great thing about this product is it doesn’t get creasy, only fading slightly with around 7 hours of use.

I am pretty happy with the colour selection as I feel there is a colour in the range that everyone would use however I would have liked there to be a darker brown but in terms of base colours they have really hit the nail on the head there. I would compare these to the Maybelline colour tattoos in texture and creaminess but the best thing about them being in a tube and not a pot is that these will have a longer shelf life as they do not dry up like the colour tattoos do.

I definitely recommend adding one of these babies to your collection as they make the perfect base. These retail at $11.95 at Priceline and if we are talking getting the bang for your buck, $11.95 is very reasonable for a base eye shadow! My favourite colour is copper fling (perfect for blue eyes!).

Have any of you guys tried Covergirl’s Shineshadows yet?

Until next time..

My Makeup Story

Hi Guys,

The beautiful Kate from kflowermaquillage tagged me to do this tag so I thought I’d give it a go!

1. How old were you when you started wearing makeup?

I used to do plays and dancing in school so quite young. But probably got more interested in high school around grade nine.

2. How did you get into makeup?

I would say I officially “got into” makeup more in my late teens and I’ve taken an obsession to it more recently in my late teens and early twenty’s.

3. What are some of your favorite brands?

There’s sooo many – Maybelline, MAC, Lioele, Benefit, NYX, Revlon, NARS, Australis, FOA and sooo many more!!

4. What does makeup mean to you?

Haha I have never thought about it too in depth to be honest. I don’t wear makeup all the time I just like to wear it for fun and I like using it to emphasise my best features.

I guess I also use makeup to express myself or how I am feeling. For example, if I am down you probably wont see me in any makeup or it will be quite sketchy/dark, but if I am in a good mood I like my makeup to reflect that. Does anyone else do this or is it just me?! haha

5. If you could only wear 4 products on your face what would they be?

Mascara, foundation, bronzer, lipstick. That’s a tough question for a bblogger! Lets hope it never comes to that!

6. What is your favourite thing about makeup?

It can completely transform you and how you look and you can do whatever you want. Skies the limit with makeup, that’s what I love about it.

7. What do you think about drugstore makeup vs. high end makeup?

Drugstore FTW, why spend more money when you don’t have too (that’s the accountant coming out in me!). In saying that, I always treat myself to high end products. There’s some items I will only buy in high end brands ie bronzer.

8. What is one tip of advice you can give a beginner?

I consider myself a beginner when it comes to makeup and ive been stuck in that category for a long time haha! But practice and YouTube is my advice. That’s where I learnt everything I know!

9. What is one makeup trend you never understood?

I don’t take note to trends to be honest. Skies the limit, if you can rock it, why not!

10. What do you think about the beauty community on Youtube/Blogging community?

Very supportive. I have met sooooo many amazing people. And I have actually met a few bloggers I talk to all the time which is amazing! I

I tag the following lovely ladies to do this tag:

All the instabeautyau girls and anyone else who wants to do the tag!

Until next time..

Maybelline Better Skin, Big Eyes Eyeliner and Volum’ Express Falsies Big Lash Mascara Review

Hi Guys,

Today I will be reviewing three new products to hit our stores here in Australia by Maybelline. Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation, Maybelline Big Eyes Eyeliner  and Maybelline Volum’ Express Falsies Big Lash Mascara. Now to get the housekeeping out of the way before I get into the review, I picked up the foundation on special at Coles for $13.96 and the mascara and eyeliner as a duo for $15.96 on special at Priceline. This is the cheapest I can find these items for so I definitely recommend going to these stores and picking them up at these prices if their sale is still on. Now for my review..

IMG_8949Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation  – This foundation’s texture is creamy and luxurious, it feels like your applying a silky smooth primer rather than an oily foundation. It’s quite thick in texture but that’s expected for the medium-full coverage it provides. I definitely had my ups and downs with this product. From testing it during the week I noticed that it would oxidise quite badly and stick to dry patches on my face which is extremely odd with my combination-oily skin type but I boil that down to it being winter and me not wearing a moisturiser/primer under the foundation. After I corrected this I noticed a significant difference so be sure to moisturise/prime before applying. The foundation sat better on my skin and finally I was achieving the results I had heard about from other people who have reviewed this product.

I did test the lasting time of this product as per the 13 hours of recommended use and I believe it lasts the distance only becoming slightly oily around my t-zone by the end of the day. The foundation is meant to even out your skin tone after three weeks of continuous use and I have noticed a change in the appearance of my skin but I’m going to credit that to my new night cream I have been using. The only thing I’m not sold on is the colour range. At Coles, they only had three colours available and even the lightest colour (ivory) is quite orangey. However, I fixed this using a lighter powder and a lot of blending. Overall this is a great drugstore product. If you are a bargain hunter like me see if you can pick it up on sale otherwise this product retails for $21.95 at your local Priceline.

(after 11 hours use – slightly oily through the t-zone)

Maybelline Big Eyes Eyeliner – I loveee me some dual products. This eyeliner is dual ended with one end being black  and the other being white and while I bought this product primarily for the mascara component, I am extremely pleased with this eyeliner. Both of the colours are creamy and easy to use/apply. I’ve been wearing the white colour on my bottom waterline all week and it does make my eyes appear larger. I’ve also been running the black through my upper waterline to accentuate my lashes and open up my eyes and in combination with the mascara by eyes have been on point lately. Would I buy this? Yes I would recommend getting it in the combination with the mascara deal, however separately probably not as Essence Cosmetics provides a cheaper alternative which works just as well.

Maybelline Volum’ Express Falsies Big Lash Mascara – HOT DAMMMNN MAYBELLINE!! I’ve been looking at Clinque’s bottom lash mascara for a long time now but the price of it was unjustifiable to me. So when I heard Maybelline was coming out with a bottom lash mascara I raced down to my local Priceline to pick it up. To be honest I didn’t even care if it had the top lash mascara part, I would have bought it solely for the bottom lash wand and hot damn this product is amazing! I’m always having to re-do my eyes because the lash wand I’m using is too big and doesn’t take to applying mascara to the bottom lashes well so to have this product is awesome! It’s a small, straight wand which is easy to use and I couldn’t say enough nice things about it. I am a big believer of coating both the top and bottom lashes finishes off a look nicely and this product allows you to do just that with ease and precision. As I said before, I bought this product solely for the bottom lash wand component but boy am I impressed with the top lash mascara! I have neglected Maybelline mascaras a lot lately to opt for my Benefit and Jordana mascaras but Maybelline has got me back in the game with this one and I will most definitely be stocking up while it’s still on sale at Priceline.

So there you have it guys, my review of some of Maybelline’s new products at the moment. Have you picked up any of these products lately?

Until next time..

Benefit Hoola Review

Hi Guys,

Since my beloved NARS Laguna (review here) shattered when I dropped it I have had to hop out of my NARS safety bubble, put on a brave face and try a different bronzer until I gather the funds to repurchase Laguna. I’ve had Benefit’s Hoola since December last year but Laguna has been that good to me I never really looked for anything else. So as devastating as it is that I smashed my Laguna, it was definitely time to expand my horizons and give another bronzer a go.

IMG_8764 IMG_8762I had heard beauty guru’s rave about Benefit’s Hoola so it wasn’t a hard decision to add this to my collection and as with the rest of Benefit’s products, Hoola does not disappoint. It’s definitely a different share to Laguna. Where Laguna is more a darker brown, Hoola is a much lighter brown tone and if over applied could appear quite orange on the skin (so be aware of this). Unlike Laguna which is a very buildable bronzer, Hoola is quite pigmented so don’t get to excited and dunk your brush in, be cautious with it.

I love the ‘ita like’ brush Hoola comes with and only being $28 from the US website it is definitely worth the price for what you get. It retails for $51 at the Benefit counters in Australia so definitely worth trying to pick it up online if your wanting to save a few $$.

Bronzers are a hard one, they can turn tacky quickly so I believe it’s always worth paying the extra $$ and picking up a good high end bronzer. I’m all for drugstore dupes but I haven’t found good quality drugstore bronzer alternative so holla at me if you know a cheap bronzer similar to Benefit’s Hoola. I find most drugstore bronzers are too shimmery leave me glowing disco ball!

The only thing I’m not completely sold on is the packaging. I like the NARS packaging a lot more (both aesthetically and practically) the square box just doesn’t work for me. I can’t see how much product I’m picking up when I dump it into the square box.

Overall Benefits Hoola is a hit for me with a score of 4/5. It’s definitely in the same ball game as the NARS Laguna and is a cheaper alternative but NARS Laguna will always be my number one!

So they are my thoughts on Benefit’s Hoola. Do you own Hoola?

Until next time..

Goldwell’s Blondes & Highlights 60 sec Treatment Review*

Hi Guys,

Today I will be reviewing Goldwell’s Blondes & Highlights 60 sec Treatment. I’m going to be honest with you, I have used the same shampoo and conditioner for around four years now. I had trialed and tested many products from more expensive brands to cheaper alternatives but with my blonde hair I found it hard to find a product that didn’t dry my hair and kill it. I have been using L’Oreal Elvives shampoo and conditioner for years now and after discovering how this product actually worked with my hair and didn’t make it straw-like and dry, I haven’t strayed since. So to trial Goldwell’s treatment  I was skeptical to begin with as I’m a big believer of “don’t fix something that’s not broken”. What a disservice I have done by disregarding other products. This product is a game changer. Ask my hairdresser, she tried to get me to trial other different shampoos and conditioners and I have never strayed but thank goodness I gave this a go as the results are phenomenal.

photo 3 (3)If I had to describe my hair type I would say it’s quite frizzy, quite a lot of fly aways and typically wavy. I just thought that was how my hair was and how it would always be but I’m wrong.
To my complete surprise this treatment has tamed my frizzyness dramatically which I didn’t expect it to do at all. It feels soft and healthy and I honestly feel like one of those hair models on the ads with how silky smooth it’s looking. Even my mum has noticed a dramatic change of the appearance of my hair. It’s now easier to work with, I usually put my hair in a bun to avoid a frizzy ponytail but lately I’ve been rocking a silky smooth pony and I love it!

photo 1 (4)I haven’t been using it as a treatment though. Where it says to use it after you have shampooed your hair and to leave it in for 60 seconds, I have been doing just that but I have totally hung up my old conditioner and this is now my go-to conditioner (where this isn’t the traditional way to use it, it works for me!). It has strengthened and repaired my hair as promised and I am so grateful for my new locks! It also accentuates my blonde highlights without drying out my hair like a lot of purple shampoos/treatments too.

photo 2 (4)It retails for $24.95 and being the bargain hunter I am, I struggle with hair care products around this mark so I would definitely look for it to go on sale but I mean for the results it’s definitely something I am willing to splurge on. You can pick it up from your local Price Attack or Hairhouse Warehouse. I love this treatment and I most definitely recommend this product.

So there you have it guys, my review of Goldwell’s 60 second treatment. Please don’t be like me, please leave your protected bubble and go and try out some new products. If they are a miss they are a miss but if you find a gem like this one I can promise you its all worth the while. Now I have left the safe zone I will definitely be trying more products from the Goldwell’s range and if their products are anything like their Blonde’s and Highlights treatment I will not be looking back.

Until next time..

*Please note this product was gifted to me by the Trish Nicol Agency.

Lip Product Addict Tag

Hi Guys,

So today I thought I would do a tag. I saw this on Shaaanxo’s Youtube channel yesterday and loved it so I wanted to do this for you guys so here goes..

1. What is your favourite balm or treatment?

I would have to say lip balm and my favourite is Nature’s Care Paw Paw Lip Balm. I have been using this religiously lately and I can’t get enough of it, I’ve nearly used the whole tube.

photo 1 (3)
2. What is your favourite eye catching red?

Ehhh. Thing is, IMO I am one of those people who just doesn’t suit red lipstick or maybe I have just never found the perfect red so I am going to have to leave this one blank.

3. The best luxury and drugstore product?

My YSL Lipstick in Lingerie Pink is my holy grail and I don’t own anything better! Apparently its getting discontinued so  if you can get your hands on this baby you need to! Drugstore? Hmm probably the Revlon lipsticks. They are good quality but can be exxy if you don’t get them on a special.

1    7

4. Best MAC lipstick?

Hands down MAC Saint Germain and Candy Yum Yum (only owning three colours is beside the point but I did pick the best of the best!)

photo 2   photo 1
5. Most disappointing lip product?

Those with little pigmentation. I have a few random colours like black and gold and blue lipsticks which you really need them to pack the punch if you are going to pull them off. So it’s disappointing when they aren’t super pigmented as they are harder to work with. Also, as much as I love NYX black label lipsticks I am disappointed with their staying power. I’m also not a huge fan of the Savvy Ultra Matte Lip Stains. Whilst their colours are out of this world, they crack on the lips and wipe off fairly quickly.

6. Lipliner : yes or no?

I don’t use it but I want to start. I’m terrible with lipstick and even when I try to outline my lips I cannot draw in a straight line and it end up all ruined and wonky so I just stick to light colours where I don’t necessarily need a lip liner.

7. Favourite gloss?

Any of the NYX butter glosses. They are all phenomenal and taste like cupcakes and lollies. I need them all!

photo 2 (3)

8. ..Something else?!

Sportsgirl and Australis lipsticks are underrated. I own multiple and they have all been fabulous and are all under $15. Pigmented and lush on the lips

So there you have it guys.. If you liked  this tag let me know and I will organise to do a few more! Have a lovely day!

Until next time..
